White Knight Hydrocarbon Sensor

A leak detection system which performs effectively and reliably is an investment which can pay high returns.

The underground plant can become the victim of both accidental and deliberate invasion by gasoline, oils and other hydrocarbons. These liquids can be very damaging to both cables and fiber as well as electrical insulation. Compounding this is the ever present danger of explosion/ fire and health/environmental effects. An effective, reliable method of automatically monitoring for these conditions is now available. And, you probably already have most of the network in place. TX Technology Corporation has developed a unique Hydrocarbon Sensor that works with your 640-L3 and 940 Hercules family of monitoring and control systems. These sensors are based on the award winning technology developed by Bell Communications Research Company. This new technology permits the detection of potentially damaging hydrocarbon based chemicals that may be present either alone or floating on water. As little as 1/10 inch of contaminant can be detected, which satisfies the requirements of both state and federal E.P.A. mandates. The sensor functions as a distributed sensor, which can sense hydrocarbon liquid anywhere along its length. The resistance will change from approximately 540 K ohm to an open within minutes of detection. The sensor is completely self restoring once the condition has been mediated and requires no initial or periodic calibration. It has an unlimited life as to the number of alarm cycles. The resistance range and the behavior of the sensor enable it to be easily integrated into existing Cable Pressure Monitoring Systems. It can be deployed on both subscriber and dedicated pairs as well as an addressable TTX version. The "open on alarm" operation adds another level of security by permitting the detection of open monitoring pairs or sensor discontinuity. The addition to monitoring manholes and underground vaults, the sensor is available in configurations that are ideal for underground storage tank (UST) monitoring. A logical companion to TX's fiber optic moisture detector, the hydrocarbon sensor is a critical step in propelling outside plant monitoring into the twenty first century.
