PRESSURE & FLOW TRANSDUCERS FOR THE TELEPHONE INDUSTRY

In December of 2003 DETROIT SWITCH, Inc. acquired the Telephone Pressure and Flow Transducer product line from UNITED ELECTRIC CONTROLS . History of product line: Working with Bell Laboratory, United Electric designed and introduced the first Bell System pressure transducer in 1965. The aerial mounted pressure transducer offered for the first time, the ability to read actual cable pressure remotely from a central office. With the introduction of pipe systems and the growing demand for a more suitable underground transducer, United Electric, again working with Bell Telephone Laboratory, developed the first Bell System underground pressure transducer and was introduced in 1973. Due to the widespread use of pipe systems, in the late 1970’s both pressure and flow values increased. It was recognized that a pressure transducer at mid point was an excellent tool indicating a leaking condition through falling pressure but to locate the leak was not an easy task. Strategically, locating flow transducers underground, could tell the leak location by isolating increased flow areas. United Electric introduced its J4 flow transducer series in various ranges and models to accommodate both underground and central office use. PRESSURE TRANSDUCER HOUSING J59C5 and J59C10 housings are designed for use with J59F transducers and meet all specifications of AT-8773 & CA-8773. The J59C5 will accommodate from one to five J59F’s. When more than five are needed the J59C10 can take up to ten. The J59F’s can be field installed without pressure loss.
