Fiber Optic Mid-Assist Capstans These capstans are specially designed to work with your existing pulling equipment to provide faster and safer pulling of your fiber optic cables. The mounting hub accommodates any 2-7/16 in. (62 mm) diameter winch shaft equipped with a bayonet or pin mount The capstans can pull rope, tape or the fiber cable itself and the large working diameters translate into good pulling speeds. 25 inch: 325 fpm (99 mpm) at 50 rpm. 32 inch: 415 fpm (126 mpm) at 50 rpm. 40 inch: 523 fpm (160 mpm) at 50 rpm. Allows any reel loader, digger derrick, T40-C or Hogg-Davis unit to become a highly productive fiber placement unit 25 inch Torque Limiters can be calibrated to regulate tension within a range of 500 - 750 lbs. (2200 - 3300 N) or 750 - 1000 lbs. (3300 - 4450 N) Both the 32 in. (813 mm) and 40 in. (101 cm) capstans can be calibrated to regulate tension to a maximum of 1000 lbs. (2669 N) An open torque model without the torque limiter is also available in 25 in. (635 mm), 32 in. (813 mm) or 40 in. (101 cm) sizes

32 inch Fiber Optic Capstan

This unit can also be used in mid assisting a cable jet where a blowing operation is in place. Simply adjust your pulling speed from your winch to accept the cable coming through from your primary span, wrap the cable around the capstan with 4 turns and allow the cable to come off the capstan into the proceeding duct. Coordinate your speeds to allow this pull to be done in one synchronized motion.
